LAST CALL! 35% OFF! Offered is one of the most gorgeous long evening gowns one can encounter. We want to start with the fact that we are having trouble dating this. It is definitively Edwardian in style. It would do well in the movie Titanic. We cannot confirm that it dates from then, however. We feel the lining is more recent. There are no labels to assist us. But, let us proceed with the description of this finely executed fashion. It is in black bugle beading which surrounds lacy flowers. Magenta satin lining peeks through adding interest. It is sheath in style with a scoop neckline in front and a deep "V" at the back. The scoop neckline is a little bit false--there is actually a separate beaded "yoke" that covers a magenta see through yoke forming a sweetheart neckline. The beaded yoke continues to form the draped dolman sleeves. The "skirt" of the dress is formed by two flounces. The second, longest flounce is where we find the use of the magenta liner--so it shows through the black lace. The same is seen at the sleeves . In fact, on the bottom flounce, the backing of the lace is edged in a deep crimson color. The back of the dress holds special interest. As we mentioned, the back has a deep plunge (10 1/2" from the nape of the neck). A 13 1/2" talon metal zipper starts there. Where the zipper ends, we find another element we are having difficulty interpreting. There is a gathered panel where the zipper ends. It extends to the end of first flounce. When we turned the dress inside out--we found this gathered panel is held in place by 8 safety pins! We were reluctant to release them for fear we would not be able to rearrange the gathers. This and the lack of a label makes us wonder if this is home tailored. Here are the measurements: 36" bust; 33 1/2" waist; 36" hip; 63" shoulder to hem; 51" shoulder to bottom of first flounce. We found no stains and no holes. However, we did find that near the bottom of the zipper, it is separated from its seam--an easy repair. We cannot rule out any bead loss, but we found none that was evident. This dress is quite heavy--we are weighing it at almost 3 pounds. This dress has not been cleaned. We note no unusual odor.
