Victorian Era Black Mourning Bonnet. On stiff net, faceted black beads are connected with seed beads to form a wing shape topper. Pair purple & lavender millinery flowers are at front. Purple, in Victorian times, was a transitional color as one came through the culturally determined mourning period--allowed at one year and sometimes at six months. Organdy rosettes are at the sides. Velvet ribbon ties under the chin. Hat is lined in black, possibly silk.
Size: 6" front to back; 6" side to side; 20" ties
Condition_very good antique--beading appears intact, there may be some seed bead loss; NOTE-the velvet ribbon ties are new. In our experience, ties as found were often frayed. These are replacements.
