Antique Old Sleepy Eye Pottery Pitcher. Old Sleepy Pottery collectibles are premiums and advertising pieces from the Sleepy Eye Milling Company of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. The town and mill were named after an Indian chief called Old Sleepy Eye because of the droopy look of his eyes. He was an Indian chief in the 1830's. The Mill operated from 1883-1921. Their best known premiums were the blue and white pottery pitchers though other items were made. The pitchers were made in various sizes. This lovely piece is the quart size and measures 6.5" tall. The pitcher has a dark cobalt blue motif of the Indian, trees and three tee pees. The handle has an Indian head at the top. The pitcher is in nice condition for its age. It has an old hairline on the side of the pitcher but it does not detract from this lovely old piece. The handle is good and there are no chips. This pitcher is an antique not a reproduction made in the 1970's. Circa 1890's. Wonderful old pottery pitcher with a nice bit of history.
