19" Antique Minerva Metal Head Doll. Nice metal head doll with beautiful brown glass eyes originally set. Metal head dolls were mostly sold as heads only and were a cheaper way to replace a broken bisque doll. They are found on many different types of bodies, leather, cloth and leatherette. She has beautiful finely painted upper and lower lashes and lovely feathered brows, very similar to a bisque doll with much detail. She has an open mouth with five teeth. Doll has her original brown mohair wig in soft waves. The top of her metal head is closed in with no pate. She is on a pin jointed leatherette body with bisque arms. She has unusual pink cloth lower legs. Doll is dressed in an old red cotton print dress with lace trim. She wears old white cotton pantaloons, a vintage red velvet hat and vintage red boots with brown cotton stockings. She is in nice condition for a metal head doll, just the usual small chips but no major chipping. Her paint is all original with no repaints, her hair is nice and her clothes are clean. She is marked Minerva on her front plate. Doll is of German make. The front of her leatherette body over her plate is not glued down so you can see her marks if you look closely. Circa 1905-1910. Nice example of a Metal Head doll with the harder to find glass eyes.
