A fine pair of 19th century gilt epaulets (also spelled epaulettes) lined with red leather and red silk, in what appears to be their original japanned tin carrying case, signed on slides “Horstmann Bros & Allien, New York” and each slide marked “Right” and “Left” with eagle buttons marked with “A”. These epaulets probably belonged to an Artillery Lieutenant, Civil War era, and are in very good condition, with some minimal leather wear, and surface scratches on the unsigned case. Dimensions: Epaulets: 4” H x 8” W x 5 ½” D; Case: 7” H x 9 ¾” W x 7” D. Ref: 50562
