A fine example of a cast iron school bell with clapper, with upper yoke embossed “Ross Meehan FDRY Co, Chattanooga, TN, 14 &15”. The associated carriage or cradle yoke is embossed “No. 1 Upright, 1886” and also has illegible embossing on the other side, but is probably made by the C&S Bell Co. Ross Meehan Foundry was established in 1889 and was active into the 1930’s when it was taken over by Frank Robbins and began to produce parts for oil refineries, tanks, and other military pieces. The bell is in very good condition, with yoke handle attached, with minor rusting and great overall patina. The carriage yoke shows considerably more surface rust and has been attached to a plywood base. Dimensions: Overall: Approximately 24” H x 20” W x 14” D. The bell itself measures approximately 9” H x 14” diameter. Ref: 840
