A fine polychrome folk art carved wooden Emperor Penguin, in the manner of Charles Hart (MA, 1862-1960). Hart was well known for his series of folk art penguins and was enamored with penguins after U. S. Admiral Richard Byrd became the first person to fly over the South Pole in 1928. Dating to the 20th century, this unsigned penguin carving has a great overall surface craquelure and patina, with a few minor imperfections, and measures approximately 12 ¼” H x 5” W x 5.5” D, loosely displayed on a 4 ¼” H x 7” W x 7” D ebonized wooden hand-made plinth.
