A wonderful folk art pair of three dimensional silhouettes of a Quaker couple made with cut fabric and paper, by American artist Rosalie P. Bye (1853-1949). Rosalie was born in Wilmington, Delaware and died in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1949 in a Quaker friend’s home. Mounted on paper with oil, watercolor & pencil sketched background of a brick wall that is purportedly at the Quaker Meeting House at 4th and Washington Streets in Wilmington, Delaware. The man’s face is hand painted. Each figure is signed lower right “RP Bye,” and housed under glass with a white inset frame and a simple ebonized outer wooden frame. Probably dates to the late 19th or early 20th century. Dimensions: Each figure measures 7” H x 5” W, sight; 10 5/8” H x 14 5/8” W, overall framed. Ref:50059
