A fine crayon and pencil drawing of a historical coastal scene, probably on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with children and possibly teachers or parents by American artist Martha Cahoon (1905-1999). Cahoon was born in Roslindale, Massachusetts and moved to Harwich,MA on Cape Cod when she was ten years old. She apprenticed under her father Axel Farnham in Boston, a talented furniture decorator, and eventually married commercial artist Ralph Cahoon, and formed a very successful furniture business with folk design motifs. They eventually moved from furniture to easel painting, exhibiting their work in several galleries. Crayon & pencil on paper, titled “Picnic,” dated 1987 and signed lower right, double matted and framed under glass in a simple molded giltwood frame. Dimensions: 10” h x 14” w, sight; 16 ¾” h x 20 ⅜” w, framed.
