A beautiful Federal period figured flame birch chest with bow front top surmounting the four conforming drawers with striking bookmatched birch veneers complimented by crossbanded mahogany veneer borders and brass oval grape cluster decorated drawer pulls, over a shaped skirt and sides with central rectangular veneered drop and slightly splayed feet. The chest of drawers dates to the early 19th century, possibly Portsmouth, NH in origin, and is in very good condition, with some restorations to the base, replaced brasses, minor losses, veneer shrinkage cracks, as well as expected wear from age and use. A handwritten name from one of its former owners appears inside the top drawer with a Portsmouth, NH address. Dimensions: 36” h x 41” w x 19 ¾” d.
