A fine White Mountain landscape of Moat Mountain in New Hampshire by American artist James Lewin (1836-1877). Lewin was born in Swansea, Massachusetts, and initially studied with an apprenticeship at the Gorham Company in Providence as an engraver, eventually evolved into painting of photographs, and then as a landscape artist. He exhibited his work at the Boston Atheneaum and became a member of the Providence Art Club, moving to Boston in 1864 and exhibiting at the Boston Art Club from 1875-1877. Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1863 lower right, and housed in a period giltwood frame. Dimensions: 7 ½” h x 11 ½”, actual; 11 ½” h x 15 ½” w, framed.
