This nice impressionist landscape of an old bridge in Chartres, France was painted by American artist Peter Hayward (1905-1993). Hayward was born in Keene, NH, and studied at Middlebury College, and became known mostly for his Hawaii and New York impressionist landscapes and cityscapes. Oil on canvas, signed lower left, inscribed on verso stretcher “Chartres, Pont de L’eure,” and housed in a decorative rustic wooden frame. Dimensions: 20” h x 24” w, actual; 27 ¼” h x 31 ½” w, framed.
