A beautiful rare tall Daum Nancy tobacco vase, from the Daum crystal studio based in Nancy,France, founded in 1878 by Jean Daum (1825-1885). His two sons Auguste and Antonin oversaw the growth of his business during the burgeoning Art Nouveau period. Beginning in the 1890’s, the brothers began experimenting with art glass and continued into the early 20th century. They introduced their cameo glassware at the Chicago World’s Fair 0f 1893. This tall slender example has red cameo decoration of flowering tobacco plants with carved details in the blossoms and foliage at the foot. The whole set against an orange and yellow ground that shades to red at the rim and foot. This signed example is marked on the side “Daum Nancy France” with the cross of Lorraine mark. Very good to excellent overall condition, with only a few minor surface imperfections, and light expected wear from age and use. Dimensions: 18 ½” h x 4 ¾” diameter at the base.
