A wonderful surf seascape by American artist Frederick Judd Waugh (1861-1940). Waugh was born in Bordentown, New Jersey, son of artist Samuel Waugh, and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and at the Academie Julien in Paris, moving to the Island of Sark in the English Channel, where he made his living as a seascape painter. Before WWI, he returned to the US, where he designed ship camouflage for the US Navy. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, titled on verso gallery label “Surf and Spindrift,” and housed in a fine giltwood frame. Dimensions: 22” h x 28” w, actual; 28” h x 34” w, framed.
