This nice country landscape of a farm and meadow in autumn was painted by American artist Frederick Lester Sexton (1899-1975). Sexton was born in Cheshire, Connecticut and studied at the Yale School of Fine Art, graduating in 1917. He went on to become a member of the New Haven Paint and Clay Club, Old Lyme Art Colony, Lyme Art Association, Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and the Salmagundi Club. He exhibited throughout his career at the Salmagundi Club and Lyme Art Association, and became well known for his landscapes, portraits, and still life paintings. Oil on masonite, signed lower right, signed and dated 70 on verso, titled on verso label “Farm and Meadow in Autumn,” and housed in a molded painted wooden frame. Dimensions: 12” h x 16” w, actual; 14 ⅞” h x 18 ¾” w, framed.
