This fine pencil sketch of a woman in a wide hat was done by American artist Stanley Woodward (1890-1970). Woodward was born in Malden, Massachusetts, and went on to author Adventures in Marine Painting (1948) and Marine Painting in Oil and Watercolor (1961) and also illustrated for Collier’s and Ford Times magazines. He became well recognized for his marine paintings and seascapes. Pencil sketch on paper, signed lower left, and housed in a molded giltwood frame. Dimensions: 13 ½” h x 10 ½” w, sight; 20 ½” h x 17 ½” w, framed.
