This interesting paper collage was created by American artist John Evans (1932-2012). Evans was born in Sioux City, SD, earned his MFA at the University of Chicago, and eventually moved to New York. Each day, beginning in 1964 and ending at the turn of the millennium (a seemingly appropriate date to stop). Evans created a collage from found objects ranging from clippings, business cards, product stickers or labels, and ticket stubs to bits of ephemera or anonymous snapshots. By the end of 2000, he had more than ten thousand collages filling 100 notebooks that are crammed into small book cases, under his bed and in trunks. Notable solo exhibitions include “New York Diary: The Collages of John Evans” at the New York Historical Society; “John Evans: Collages” at the Morris Museum; as well as exhibitions at Cordier & Ekstrom, Knoedler, Gracie Mansion and Pavel Zoubok galleries. A major survey of his work, John Evans: Collages, was published by the Quantuck Lane Press in 2004.
