An outstanding hand scrimmed powder horn circa War of 1812, featuring the US Navy battleship “Independence”, perhaps in Boston or NY Harbor, and U.S. Eagle with stars and stripes, and “E. Pluribus Unum”, with its wings reaching around the horn. The Independence was the first commissioned US Navy battleship of the line. Following America's triumph in this nearly three year conflict, a wave of fervent patriotism spread across our fledgling nation, and the federal eagle became the great popular symbol of our country. This powder horn has great patina and is in very good overall condition, with one shrinkage crack visible, as well as other minor imperfections and expected wear from age and use. Dimensions: 14” long x 2 ¾” diameter.
