A wonderful Art Deco style patinated cast bronze sculpture of a black panther, titled Panthere Marchant by French artist Maurice Gaston Elie Joseph Prost (1894-1967). Prost initially studied under sculptor Léopold Morice and Charles Valton, who strongly influenced his career as a sculptor. The model of the black panther running was exhibited for the first time in 1928 at the Salon of Independent Artists. In 1931, he presented his black panther bronze life-size in Colonial Exhibition. This bronze is signed on its black marble base M. Prost, along with the foundry Susse F?res, Edit?rs, Paris. Circa 1920-1930. Very good overall condition, with minor base edge chips, scratches, and losses, bronze patina rubs & losses, and other imperfections. Dimensions: 7 1/2" h x 14 1/2" w x 2 1/4" d.
