An exceptional mahogany tall case clock with single tubular chime, along with a ribbon carved bonnet with swan’s neck broken pediment, three urn finials, freestanding fluted columns flanking the dial door, 13 inch chased brass dial with applied brass numerals, marked Smith Patterson and Co. Boston, seconds dial, moon phase and docked tall ship in arch, tombstone form glazed beveled glass waist door with carved radiating fan top, full-length fluted columns, eight-day brass time, strike, and chime weight-powered movement, double brass-cased weights and pendulum, a wreath carved base, all supported on carved paw feet. Smith Patterson and Co, Boston MA, was founded by M.N. Smith and Henry Winthrop Patterson as Smith and Patterson (1885-1895), agents and importers of sterling and other items, eventually becoming part of the Jordan Marsh department store. This clock dates to the late 19th early 20th century and is in excellent recently restored working condition, with minimal imperfections and light expected wear from age and use.
