A fine example of a patinated cast bronze of a bull by French sculptor Isodore Jules Bonheur (1827-1901). Bonheur was born in Bordeaux, France, studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. and went on to become well known for his small animal bronze groups. An acute observer of nature, his sculptures reflect his commitment to the Realist school - with precise detailing of the movements of animals in their natural habitats. This cast bronze is signed “I. Bonheur” on the top front of the base and is in very good overall condition, with minimal imperfections, slight discoloring along the base, and light wear from age and use. Dimensions: 7 ¼” h x 13” w x 4 ¾” d.
