A fine portrait of a lady dressed in a traditional folklore costume by Polish artist Leonard Winterowski (1886-1927). Winterowski was born in Chernivtsi, Poland, and studied in Krakow in the School of Fine Arts. Initially, he painted genre scenes, portraits and landscapes . During World War I, when he served as a war correspondent, he became interested in the subject of battle. Oil on panel, signed and dated Warsaw 1920 lower right, and housed in a black molded frame with gilt highlights. Dimensions: 20 ¾” h x 17 ½” w, actual; 24 ¼” h x 21 ⅛” w, framed.
