This tulip side table was first introduced by designer Eero Saarinen in 1956. Saarinen sought the essential idea and reduced it to the most effective structural solution within an overall unity of design. The Saarinen oval side table features Saarinen's tulip-base Silhouette with a single stem base taking the place of traditional legs. The table base is constructed from molded, cast aluminum polished and coated in a tough, abrasion-resistant Rilsan finish, and a wood veneered medium density fiberboard top with beveled edge. A Knoll International label appears on the underside of the top, dated 1979 with model number 161M. The table is in very good overall condition, with some minor edge losses and surface scratches on the base, some minor base rust, as well as a few surface imperfections on the veneer top. The additional glass oval top measures 24.5 in x 17.38 inches.
