This wonderful oil painting of a lady with a horse was painted by American artist Henry Rankin Poore (1859-1940). Poore was born in Newark, New Jersey, studied for a year at the National Academy of Design in New York City, then until 1880 with Peter Moran at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He went to Paris, France, in 1883 and studied further there with Evariste Vital Luminais and William Adolphe Bouguereau. He became known as painter of rural landscape subjects, fox hunting, portraits, and animals. Oil on canvas, signed and titled “Orange” lower right, and housed in a fine reticulated carved giltwood frame. Dimensions: 22” h x 27” w, actual; 31” h x 36” w, framed.
