This nicely done watercolor landscape with cows was painted by Canadian / American artist Charles Paul Gruppe (1860-1940). Gruppe was born in Picton, Canada and was mostly a self-taught artist, although he did study in Holland. He became known for his impressionist marine, landscape, and genre paintings and should not be confused with his son, artist Emile Gruppe, who painted many well known New England scenes. Watercolor on paper, signed lower right, matted and framed under glass with a linen mat with gilt inset, in a carved giltwood frame. Dimensions: 10 ¾” h x 15” w, sight; 18” h x 22 ¼” w, framed.
