This fine impressionist Italian harbor scene in Venice with boats unloading their catch of the day was painted by American artist Aldro Thompson Hibbard (1886-1972). Hibbard was born in Falmouth, Vermont and later became one of the founders of the Rockport Art Colony, living on Cape Ann in Massachusetts and summering in Jamaica, Vermont. He became very well known for his New England snow scenes and coastline paintings. Oil on panel, signed and dated 1914 lower left, titled “Harbor of Venice” on front plaque and on verso Rockport Art Association exhibition label, and housed in a complimenting giltwood frame. Dimensions: 18.25 in H x 23.5 in W, actual; 28 in H x 33.5 W, framed. Good to excellent overall condition, with minor imperfections and minor professional restoration.
