A splendid two-part cherry Chippendale secretary, its upper case with broken arched pediment flanking a central carved acorn and flame finial over two paneled doors which open to a compartmentalized shelf interior. The center divider has a custom cutout to allow locking of the left panel door. The lower case has a slant top writing surface which opens to another compartmentalized interior with central prospect door flanked by eight valanced cubbies over five fitted short drawers and two long drawers over four graduated drawers with replaced hardware, all supported by four bracket feet. The two cases are associated in very good overall condition, with a few minor break repairs and losses on the pediment, some restoration, as well as other imperfections and light expected wear from age and use. Connecticut Valley in origin, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century. Dimensions: 92 1/2" h x 41 1/4" w x 22 1/4" d.
