A fine George III metamorphic elm and satinwood tambour writing desk, circa 1790. The tambour top opening to a leather inset interior, with a mechanically operated concealed superstructure, fitted with a three-sided gallery and small drawers, lifting in conjunction with a hinged side that drops flat to enlarge the writing surface, the frieze with two drawers, raised on square tapering legs, ending in brass feet with casters. Very good overall condition, with some surface losses, restorations, veneer chips, replaced leather, imperfections, and expected wear from age and use. Dimensions: 34" h x 30 1/4" w x 24 1/2" d.
