This nicely done oil painting landscape with a camp near a river, possibly the Lester River or Amity Creek, was painted by Danish-American artist Peter F. Lund (1846-1898). Lund was born in Denmark and emigrated to the Chicago area in 1866, married, and moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota, where he became known as an artist, with his prime subject matter being ship portraits and clipper ships on Lake Superior, as well as logging scenes from the area. Oil on canvas, signed and dated on verso “Lester Park, Duluth, Lake Superior, P.F. Lund, artist, 1896, No. 167” and housed in a decorative period frame, probably repainted more recently. There is a small damage spot near the upper center of the canvas with patch visible on verso. Dimensions: 24” h x 34” w, actual; 33” h x 43 ¼” w, framed.
