A fine example of a No. 9 walnut Figure 8 form wall clock with a 9-inch painted zinc dial with Roman numerals, signed “ E. Howard & Co., Boston,” black and gold reverse painted glass on the throat, the lower door glass reverse painted in black, gold, and maroon, red painted interior with 8-day time only movement with brass-faced bob pendulum with giltwood rod. The interior door shows a period label from "Fred S. Scales, Jeweler, Winchester". E. Howard & Co. was a clock and watch company formed by Edward Howard and Charles Rice in 1858, after the demise of the Boston Watch Company, and they produced high grade watches, regulators, and marine clocks. This clock dates to the 1870’s and is in fine working condition, with its good original finish, some paint craquelure on the dial, minor imperfections, and expected wear from age and use.
