This fine landscape painting, possibly The Fens, Boston, Massachusetts, was painted by American artist Edward Wilbur Dean Hamilton (1864-1943). Hamilton was born in Pennsylvania and studied painting in Boston where he became an important member of the Boston School of Painting. He was an impressionist landscape, genre, and portrait painter and was especially noted for garden landscapes. He studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School and in 1883 moved to Providence, Rhode Island where he studied with Tomasso Juglaris at the Rhode Island School of Design. In 1892, he returned to Boston, setting up a studio on Boylston Street and exhibiting at the Boston Art Club and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
