This exceptional watercolor cityscape in Gallenas, Illinois was painted by American artist Edward Herrmann (1914-2012). Herrmann was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and was educated as a mechanical engineer for three years at Purdue, Indiana and Penn State Universities, he worked in industry from 1935 to 1958, including management of Interior Design and Color for Raymond Loewy Associates and Studebaker-Packard Corporation. He established his own design consulting firm in South Bend, and he also taught at the Art Center there for sixteen years. He opened his fine art studio and gallery in South Bend in 1969, and moved to Estes Park, Colorado in 1975. Herrmann was mostly a self-taught artist best known for his watercolor landscapes, particularly of Colorado. Watercolor on paper, signed and titled “The Crooked Mile” lower right, and housed under glass in a molded gray painted frame. Dimensions: 23” h x 18 ½” w, sight; 36” h x 31” w, framed.
