An exceptional three-piece Massachusetts (possibly Boston) Federal Period Hepplewhite mahogany inlaid secretary in three parts. The upper section with stepped crest and finials surmounting a molded frieze above Gothic glazed doors with geometric églomisé panels opening to reveal adjustable shelves and resting on the middle section with tambour doors with centre prospectus fitted with a secret drawer all flanked by nicely checkered inlaid pilasters. The tambours open to reveal a compartmentalized interior with balanced cubbies and small drawers. The lower section with hinged writing surface above two drawers all with bookmatched mahogany and string inlay and all supported by four square tapered legs with bellflower and line inlay. Very good to excellent overall condition, with minor imperfections, some losses on the interior door panels, shrinkage cracks, and minimal expected wear. The secret drawer has a separated top panel. Dimensions: 82 1/2" h x 36" w x 20" d.
