A very interesting hand forged iron halberd, a two handed pole weapon, that was usually mounted on a five or six foot wooden pole, with an axe blade on one side and a hook or thorn on the back side for grappling mounted combatants. These weapons began to be commonly used in the 14th and 15th centuries, and this piece purportedly dates to the 16th century. Very good overall condition, with great patina and expected wear from age and use. Provenance: Purchased from a castle in Northern Bavaria. Dimensions: 42 ¼” long x 11” w at blade x 1” d.
