This wonderful Hudson River landscape was painted by Scottish American artist James McDougal Hart (1828-1901). Hart was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland and his family emigrated to Albany, New York when he was two years old. Hart eventually opened a studio in New York, where he became well known as one of the leading figures in the second generation of Hudson River School painters, with landscapes as his specialty. He served as the Vice President of the National Academy of Design for three years. Oil on panel, signed lower right, and housed in a fabulous period carved giltwood frame. Dimensions: 14” h x 18” w, actual; 22 ½” h x 26 ½” w, framed.
