This spectacular coastal landscape was painted by American artist Allen Tucker (1866-1939). Tucker was born in Brooklyn, New York and while working in his father’s architectural firm, studied at the Art Students League with impressionist John H. Twachtman. He eventually became a full time painter and became known as the “Vincent in America” due to the heavy influence that Vincent Van Gogh had on his work. Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1914 lower right, titled on front placard, as well as on verso D. Wigmore Fine Art NY gallery label “Mount Desert Island, Maine, 1914,” and housed in a beautiful giltwood frame. Two labels from Christie’s are also present on verso.
