An unusual large round mortar made of carved stone bowl set into a solid dense wooden base, accompanied by a stone pestle with wooden handle, used for grinding ingredients into powder or fine paste. Probably dates to the 19th century, in very good condition, with great overall patina, some shrinkage cracks in the wood base and handle, edge losses, imperfections, and a crack in the stone mortar is visible. Dimensions: Mortar: 10” h x 17” w 15 ½” d: Pestle: 12 ⅜” long.
