This nicely done oil painting of the Cathedral de Notre Dame in Paris, France was done by American artist Frank Mason (1921-2009). Mason was born in Cleveland, OH, and studied at the Art Students League in New York City, studying under Frank Vincent Dumond, and eventually teaching there for 44 years. Mason became known for his interior, figure, and landscape paintings. As an artist, he emphasized respect for the Old Masters such as Michelangelo, Rubens, Vermeer and Velasquez. He was dedicated to the effective use of light and the appearance of it moving throughout the painting. Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1984 lower right, and housed in a fine giltwood frame, with a few minor gilt losses. Dimensions: 41” h x 48” w, actual; 46 ½” h x 54 ½” w, framed.
