This beautiful historic marine painting of the 1881 Boston Harbor tugboat “Leader” was painted by American artist William R. Davis (1952-). Davis was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, grew up in Hyannis Port, MA and became well-known in New England and across the country as a self-taught artist of luminist marine and landscape paintings. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, as well as titled and signed on verso “Boston Harbor Tugboat “Leader,” Built 1881” and housed in a beautiful gold giltwood frame. Dimensions: 24” h x 36” w, actual; 32 3/4” h x 44 3/4” w, framed.
