This modernist painting of a musical string quartet, including violins and a cello, was painted by Russian / American artist William Meyerowitz (1887-1981). Meyerowitz was born in Esterinoslav, Ukraine and later moved to America, studying and working in New York, marrying fellow artist Theresa Bernstein, and through her, became active in the artists’ colony of Gloucester, where they remained active in the summer art scene for six decades. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, and housed in a giltwood frame with linen lined inset. Dimensions: 21 ¾” h x 28” w, actual; 27” h x 33” w, framed.
