19th Century English Gilt and Ebonized Sewing Work and Games Table
An exceptional example of a mid-19th century English sewing or work table which opens up as a games table for chess, backgammon or cribbage, with bird's-eye maple veneer, ebonized banding and highlights and beaded brass edge decoration. Below the beautifully inlaid and banded top is a fitted drawer with compartments for playing pieces or embroidery, over a large sliding lined work box for additional pieces or embroidery, all supported by ebonized and gilt decorated turned legs, terminating with scrolled feet on brass and porcelain casters. Excellent overall condition, with some minor restorations, minor imperfections, and minimal expected wear from age and use. Dimensions: 28 1/4" h x 26" w x 16" d, closed; the top measures 32" w x 26" d, open.
