This is a comical graphite drawing of two businessmen, sometimes referred to as "The Two Merchants," one in a sad state with the heading “I Sold On Credit “ and the other looking confident with his safe full of money, with the heading “I Sold For Cash Only”. This is a drawing of a 19th century popular poster, and probably dates to the early 20th century. Graphite on paper, unsigned, and framed under glass in a period wooden frame, with minor edge rubs and losses. Dimensions: 15 ¾” h x 19 ¾” w, sight; 19 ½” h x 23 ½” w, framed. A great vintage piece for your boss or CFO’s office decor.
