A wonderful portrait of a girl with a riding crop painted by French beaux arts artist Victor Viktor Tortez (1843-1890). Tortez was born in Paris, France and was taught by Jean-Jacques Henner, as well as a pupil of Jean-Leon Gerome. He became well known for his studio portraits of aristocrats, as well as his nude studies of women and children. Oil on canvas, signed and dated 77 lower right, and housed in a period giltwood frame. Some minor canvas edge paint losses. Dimensions: 48 ¼” h x 31 ½” w, actual; 56 ½” h x 38 ½” w, framed.
