This nice summer landscape with a barn was done by American artist Bertram George Bruestle (1906-1968). Bruestle was born in New York City and was the son of one of the beloved members of the Lyme Art Colony, George M. Bruestle. He became very interested in plants and animals, working for the Museum of Natural History in New York, illustrating medical journals. He eventually took over his father’s studio in Lyme and became active with the art colony there. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, and housed in a painted country molded wooden frame. There are two scratches visible on the painting surface (see photo close up) , each are several inches long, as well as one on the left edge of the frame. Dimensions: 25” h x 30” w, actual; 30 ¾” h x 35 ¾” w, framed.
