This wonderful large oil painting portrait was done by American artist Marie Danforth Page (1869-1940). Page was born in Boston, and studied at the Boston Museum School with Edmund Tarbell and Frank Benson. She went on to become well known for her portrait work, painting six Harvard professors from 1928 to 1931, among others. Her favorite subjects for portraits were children and mothers and children together. She received a bronze medal for one of three paintings in the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco, and the Shaw Prize in 1916 at the National Academy of Design, New York. She exhibited at the Guild of Boston Artists, Vose and Walter Kimball Galleries in Boston.
