This serene oil painting of a pond scene titled “The Lone Boater, Summer Afternoon” was painted by American artist Edward Reynolds Kingsbury (1855-1940). Kingsbury was born in Boston and studied at the Massachusetts Normal Art School, Boston Museum School, and the Academie Julian in Paris. He painted in Carmel, California in the 1920’s and returned to New England where he resided in Ogunquit, Maine and Cambridge, MA. He was also a member of the Salmagundi Club and Ogunquit Art Association. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, and housed in a beautiful carved wooden frame. Dimensions: 30” h x 36” w, actual; 37 ½” h x 43 ½” w, framed.
