This wonderful sailor's valentine was created by American contemporary artist William R. Davis (1952-) and his wife Judy. William was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, grew up in Hyannis Port, MA and became well-known in New England and across the country as a self-taught artist of luminist marine and landscape paintings. This sailor's valentine has a painted panel in the center by William of a schooner yacht that measures approximately 2 ¼" in diameter, monogrammed W.D. lower left. surrounded by shells with a star pattern, housed in a tiger maple hexagonal frame under glass. A Cape Cod Museum Exhibition label appears on verso. The frame measures 11" wide overall and is 2 ¼" deep.
