A framed presentation print of an original painting of Dartmouth College by American artist Paul Starrett Sample (1896-1974) dated 1945. The front plaque reads “Presented to Francis P. Murphy, Trustee of Dartmouth College 1937-1941, By the Board of Trustees, June 1956”. The verso label reads “This is copy 9 of an edition of one hundred copies of the oil painting by Paul Sample ‘20, Artist in Residence at Dartmouth College, painted in 1945 on commission by the undergraduates and presented as a gilt to Ernest Martin Hopkins ‘01 upon his retirement as president on November 1, 1945. The view is of the campus and Dartmouth Row as seen from the Trustees Room in Parkhurst Hall” and shows signatures of the trustees and college logo.
