This cast bronze sculpture is based on one of the original Marly Horses, made after the marble originals designed and made for King Louis XV of France in 1745, by famed royal sculptor, Guillaume Coustou (1677-1746). The originals were built for the horse pond at Louis XiV chateau at Marly, later placed at the entrance to the Champs Elysee in Paris, which have been replaced by copies and the originals are at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Incised with “Coustou” on the base. Probably dates to the 20th century. Very good condition, with some imperfections, repairs, and expected wear from age and use. Dimensions: 19 ½” h x 18” w x 7 ½” d.
