Gerry Williams Art Pottery Vase - NH Governor John W. King
This nice glazed art pottery vase with flared lip in brown earth tones was done by Indian / American artist Gerry Williams (1926-2014). Williams was born in India from American parents, and eventually set up a studio and became a longtime resident of Dunbarton, New Hampshire. Williams took his first pottery lessons from master ceramic artist Vivika Heino at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in the late 1940s. He became a juried member of the League in 1952. New Hampshire Governor Jeanne Shaheen named Williams the state’s first artist laureate in 1998. In 1999, the League gave Williams the Lifetime Achievement Award.
This vase reads “NH Gov. John W. King” in bold letters around the shoulder, and is signed on the base. King was a three term Governor in New Hampshire from 1963-1969. Excellent overall condition, with minimal imperfections and expected wear from age and use. Dimensions: 11 ¾” h x 5 ½” diameter lip. See our other Gerry Williams pieces listed.
